Forsaken and Alone

J. Paul Williams’ words lead us from Gethsemane to Calvary and the tomb as we consider Christ’s sacrifice for our sins.  Larry Shackley creates a pensive mood through rich, modal harmony and an improvisatory accompaniment.  The crowning glory of the anthem, however, is the closing shift to A major and the full, slow statement of the refrain of And Can It Be.
