Deep Waters

Perhaps the complexity of modern life encourages current composers to write music that harkens back to the simplicity of early America.  Pepper Choplin’s Deep Waters does just that in his a cappella composition based on the fifth chapter of Luke, exemplified by plain harmonies and the story-telling aspect of the text.  It also works well as an introit anthem as the congregation is encouraged to join the folk-like melody at the end of the anthem.
